Use this procedure to view backplane utilization, and evaluate whether to manually optimize backplane bandwidth between theVLNC50/52/55 SONET/SDH Transport and VLNC35 Fast Ethernet circuit packs.
To manually optimize VLNC35 backplane bandwidth, refer to Procedure 6-8: Optimize backplane bandwidth.
Important!
Optimizing backplane bandwidth will only change the internal cross-connection routing; it will not change the endpoints of any cross-connections.
Excessive fragmentation can be determined in the following ways:
If you provision a new cross-connection and the backplane bandwidth necessary to support the cross-connection is not available, the command will be denied with a SARB (Status All Resources Busy) error response.
You can check the backplane bandwidth utilization for the VLNC35 circuit pack using the WaveStar® CIT to display the information or the RTRV-STATE-EQPT command to view the raw utilization data.
You must log in as a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.
Refer to Before you begin and Required equipment in this chapter.
Perform the following steps to evaluate whether you need to optimize backplane bandwidth.
1 |
Log in to the shelf you want to evaluate. Reference: Procedure 14-2: Connect personal computer (PC) and establish WaveStar® CIT session |
2 |
From the System View menu, select View → Backplane Bandwidth Utilization to access the backplane utilization information for the VLNC35 circuit pack. |
3 |
View the backplane utilization information presented and determine if manual defragmentation is required. The information shows whether or not each backplane STS1/TUG3 is carrying cross-connected traffic. For STS1s/TUG3s carrying VT/VC12 cross-connected traffic between the VLNC35 and the VLNC50/52/55 circuit packs, it also indicates the number of VT/VC12 timeslots carrying traffic within the STS1/TUG3. |
4 |
If required, manually optimize backplane bandwidth for the VLNC35 circuit pack. Reference: Procedure 6-8: Optimize backplane bandwidth End of steps |
