Use this procedure to install the following 10/100 Ethernet circuit packs:
If the Main slots are not equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs, the LNW66/LNW71 Ethernet circuit packs are supported in slot 1 or slot 2 of Function/Growth group A, B, C, and/or D. However, it is recommended that the LNW66/LNW71 Ethernet circuit pack be installed in Function/Growth slot A1, B1, C1, and/or D1. A 177D apparatus blank or an LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack must be installed in the unequipped companion Function/Growth slot. The LNW66 and LNW71 circuit packs are not supported in slot G1.
The LNW74 circuit pack is supported in slot 1 or slot 2 of Function/Growth groups A, B, C, D, and/or G. However, it is recommended that the LNW74 Ethernet circuit pack be installed in Function/Growth slot A1, B1, C1, D1, and/or G1. If the LNW74 is installed in slot G1, only the SFP 100Base-FX optical ports (17-24) are available. The 10/100 Base-T electrical ports (1-16) are not available on LNW74 circuit packs installed in slot G1. A 177D apparatus blank or an LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack must be installed in the unequipped companion Function/Growth slot.
If the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs, the circuit packs in a Function/Growth group may be the same or different circuit pack type depending on the Slot Protection State.
For Ethernet circuit packs, the Slot Protection State parameter is fixed Unprotected. If the Slot Protection State is Protected and a 10/100 Ethernet circuit pack is installed, the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm and service may be impacted.
The following combinations of 0x1 compatible circuit pack types are supported in Function/Growth Slot 1 and Slot 2 when the Slot Protection State is Unprotected.

Note 1: This includes the LNW63, LNW64, LNW67, LNW68, LNW73/73C, LNW87, LNW170, LNW705, LNW785, and all low-speed OLIU circuit packs. The LNW6, LNW7, LNW8, LNW16, LNW18, LNW19/19B, LNW20, LNW70 (S1:2 and earlier), LNW74 (S1:1), and LNW801 are not 0x1 compatible. Note 2: The circuit pack Ethernet Mode parameter must be provisioned as FX to support LNW74 circuit packs in slot 1 and slot 2; otherwise, this configuration is incompatible. |
If an incompatible circuit pack is installed in a Function/Growth slot, the system reports a CP not allowed - eqpt alarm.
Select View → Equipment to access the circuit pack details and determine the value of the Slot Protection State parameter.
The Slot Protection State parameter can be changed from Protected to Unprotected or from Unprotected to Protected. If required, refer to Procedure 4-24: Change slot protection state.
You must log in as a Privileged, General, Maintenance, or Reports Only user to complete this procedure.
Use only Alcatel-Lucent Approved Class 1 SFP transceivers in the LNW74 10/100-T/F circuit pack. Refer to the list of pluggable transmission modules in Procedure 4-15: Install pluggable transmission modules.
Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer (DMX) Installation Manual, 365-372-304, as required, when removing and/or installing pluggable transmission modules.
When the Main slots are equipped with VLF OLIU circuit packs, the LNW74 circuit pack supports the following provisionable Ethernet port configurations .

Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.
Refer to Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Ensure that the appropriate Ethernet circuit pack is available for installation.
If required, ensure that correct pluggable transmission modules are available for installation in the LNW74 circuit pack.
Use the work instructions and select View → Equipment to access the circuit pack details and determine if the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs.
Complete the following steps to install a 10/100 Ethernet circuit pack.
1 |
Determine the Function/Growth slots being equipped with circuit pack. Reference:

2 |
For the LNW74 circuit pack only, ensure all optical fiber connectors and couplings are properly cleaned, if required. Important! Signal performances may be degraded if the connections and couplings are not cleaned properly. Reference: Procedure 14-3: Clean optical fibers, dual LC adapters and LC lightguide buildouts (LBOs) |
3 |
Important! Pluggable transmission modules are shipped with a dust cover installed into the optical ports to maintain cleanliness during storage and/or transportation. It is recommended that the dust cover be kept in place to maintain cleanliness until the optical fiber is connected. With proper care and handling, cleaning the pluggable transmission modules should not be necessary. If required, clean any optical pluggable transmission modules being used. Reference: Procedure 14-29: Clean optical pluggable transmission module |
4 |
Open both faceplate latches and seat the circuit pack in the required Function/Growth slot by applying steady pressure to both faceplate latches. Result: If a factory-fresh circuit pack is inserted, a firmware Smart Apply may begin (this is indicated by a blinking ACTIVE LED). The Smart Apply may take from 5-8 minutes and the user should wait for it to complete. If the Smart Apply does not occur, the FAULT LED on the circuit pack lights. After approximately 100 seconds, the ACTIVE LED lights and the FAULT LED goes off. Select View → Refresh System View and the circuit pack appears in the WaveStar® CIT System View indicating successful installation. |
5 |
Important! The LNW74 circuit pack ports 17-24 may be equipped with up to eight pluggable transmission modules and supports different Ethernet port configurations. Refer to Ethernet port configurations (LNW74 circuit pack only). If required, install pluggable transmission modules. Reference: Procedure 4-15: Install pluggable transmission modules |
6 |
If the companion Function/Growth slot is unequipped, install either a 177D apparatus blank or an LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack in the unequipped companion Function/Growth slot. |
7 |
From the System View menu, select View → Equipment. Result: The View Equipment window opens. |
8 |
Verify presence of the new circuit pack in the equipment list. |
9 |
Select (highlight) the new circuit pack, then click Select at bottom of window. Result: Circuit pack parameter values display on right side of window. |
10 |
Verify that the Circuit Pack State for the circuit pack reads In Service. |
11 |
Click Close to exit. |
12 |
From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to verify that no alarms are present for the ports on the circuit packs just installed. Result: The NE Alarm List appears. No alarms should be present for the circuit pack just installed. |
13 |
If required, provision the circuit pack and/or port parameters. Important! When a new Ethernet circuit pack is installed, Ethernet PM reporting is enabled and TCA reporting is disabled for each port and VCG. If changes are required, refer to Procedure 8-5: Provision performance monitoring (PM) settings. Reference: Procedure 4-14: Provision Ethernet circuit pack/LAN port/VCG for service End of steps |
