Procedure 4-9: Install DS1/E1 circuit packs

- Overview

Use this procedure to install the following circuit packs:

  • LNW6 28DS1

The LNW6 is DA'd and is no longer available

  • LNW7 28DS1PM

  • LNW8 56DS1/E1

  • LNW112 DS1/16

  • LNW801 56DS1/E1

If installing the DS1/DS3/16/3 circuit pack, refer to Procedure 4-6: Install DS1/DS3/16/3 circuit packs.

Important!

If the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs, the LNW6, LNW7 and LNW112 DS1 circuit pack are not supported. If the Main slots are equipped with LNW140 OC-3/DS1 circuit packs, LNW112 DS1 circuit packs are not supported.

Important!

It is assumed that the DS1 cables have already been installed. Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) Installation Manual, 365-372-327 for cabling information.

Equipage guidelines

The system does not support mixing standard density (LNW6 and LNW7) DS1 circuit packs in the same Function group. The circuit packs in a Function group must be the same circuit pack type. For example, both circuit packs in a Function group must be standard density LNW6 or LNW7 circuit packs. If the circuit packs in a Function group are different circuit pack types, the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm and service may be impacted.

Beginning in Release 9.1, the system supports mixing high-density (LNW8 and LNW801) DS1 circuit packs in the same Function group. In this case, the circuit packs in a Function group can be the same circuit pack type. For example, both circuit packs can be high-density LNW8 circuit packs, or both circuit packs must be high-density LNW801 circuit packs, or the circuit packs in a Function group can be an LNW8 and an LNW801.

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged, General, Maintenance, or Reports Only user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.

  2. Refer to Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.

  3. Ensure that the DS1 or DS1/E1 circuit packs are available for installation.

  4. If installing high-density LNW8 or LNW801 circuit packs, verify that the DS1 cables are installed to the J2D and J4D, or J8G and J10G connectors on the shelf backplane as required. Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) Installation Manual, 365-372-327 for cabling information.

  5. Use the work instructions and select View → Equipment to access the circuit pack details and determine if the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW84 or LNW141 OLIU circuit packs.

Steps

Complete the following steps to install DS1 or DS1/E1 circuit packs.

1

Important!

The LNW6, LNW7 and LNW8/LNW801 circuit packs must be installed in Function/Growth slots D or G.

The LNW112 DS1/16 circuit packs must be in installed in Function slots A/B.

Determine the Function/Growth slots being equipped with DS1 or DS1/E1 circuit packs.
