Use this procedure to upgrade an unprotected LNW70 100/1G FXS circuit pack to an LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack in the same slot.
You must log in as a Privileged user to complete this procedure.
The following equipment is required to perform this procedure:
The pluggable transmission modules installed in the LNW70 circuit pack are reused in the replacement LNW170 circuit pack.
NOTICE Equipment damage |
Rocking circuit packs back and forth when removing or installing them can damage circuit pack and/or shelf connectors.
Do not rock circuit packs back and forth when removing or installing them. Carefully slide circuit packs into or out of the shelf slot.
NOTICE Service-disruption hazard |
This is a service-affecting upgrade. If the unprotected LNW70 circuit pack is in service, a service outage will occur when the fibers, pluggable transmission modules, or LNW70 circuit pack are removed from the shelf.
The length of the service outage is minimized if the required software is preloaded on the replacement LNW170 circuit pack.
NOTICE Service-disruption hazard |
Removing or installing circuit packs during a System Reset can cause system errors.
Do not remove or install a circuit pack during a System Reset. If a System Reset occurs, wait until the System Reset is complete, then remove or install the circuit pack.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Electrostatic discharge information in Chapter 1, Safety.
Obtain the work instructions for this procedure and verify that the affected circuit pack is specified.
Review the applicable Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) Software Release Description for any detailed procedures or cautions that may apply to this upgrade procedure.
Complete the following steps to upgrade an unprotected LNW70 100/1G FXS circuit pack to an LNW170 100/1G FXS circuit pack in the same slot.
1 |
Log in to the node where the unprotected LNW70 100/1G FXS circuit pack is to be replaced. Reference: Procedure 14-2: Connect Personal Computer (PC) and establish WaveStar® CIT session
2 |
Click the Alarm List button in the top right corner of the System View to view the NE Alarm List and verify that no alarms are present. Refer to the appropriate trouble-clearing procedures to clear all existing alarms before continuing with this procedure. Reference: Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) Alarm Messages and Trouble Clearing Guide, 365-372-326
3 |
Important! To minimize the length of the service outage when the replacement LNW170 circuit pack is installed, it is recommended that the required software be preloaded on the replacement LNW170 circuit pack (optional).
| ||||||
4 |
Install the replacement LNW170 circuit pack in an empty Function/Growth slot in the shelf or in another shelf running the same software version. Result: If a circuit pack firmware update is required, the system reports the Waiting for Download and Install Program IP conditions when the replacement LNW170 circuit pack is installed. The circuit pack firmware update and initialization takes approximately 5–8 minutes. If a circuit pack firmware update is not required, the circuit pack is initialized. The circuit pack initialization takes approximately 90 seconds. Reference: Procedure 4-14: Install Gigabit Ethernet circuit packs
5 |
When the circuit pack firmware update and initialization is complete, open the faceplate latches on the replacement LNW170 circuit pack and remove the circuit pack from the shelf. Result: The system reports a CP removed alarm.
6 |
At the System View select Configuration → Update System → Update All. Result: The CP removed alarm clears.
7 |
A service outage will occur when the fibers, pluggable transmission modules, or LNW70 circuit pack are removed from the shelf until the replacement LNW170 circuit pack and pluggable transmission modules are installed with fibers reconnected. The length of the service outage is minimized if the replacement LNW170 circuit pack is preloaded with the required software and the pluggable transmission modules/fibers are disconnected/moved from the LNW70 circuit pack to the replacement LNW170 circuit pack while the replacement LNW170 circuit pack is downloading software (if needed) and initializing. Open the faceplate latches on the LNW70 circuit pack. If possible, remove the LNW70 circuit pack without disconnecting the pluggable transmission modules and fibers. If necessary, only remove the pluggable transmission modules and fibers required to remove the LNW70 circuit pack. Result: The system reports a CP removed alarm.
8 |
Install the replacement LNW170 circuit pack. While the replacement LNW170 is downloading software (if needed) and initializing, disconnect the pluggable transmission modules/fibers from the LNW70 circuit pack and clean/connect to the replacement LNW170 circuit pack. Result: If a circuit pack firmware update is required, the system reports the Waiting for Download and Install Program IP conditions when the replacement LNW170 circuit pack is installed. The circuit pack firmware update and initialization takes approximately 5–8 minutes. After the circuit pack firmware update and initialization is complete, the replacement LNW170 circuit pack/pluggable transmission modules are autoprovisioned and the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm. If a circuit pack firmware update is not required, the circuit pack is initialized. The circuit pack initialization takes approximately 90 seconds. After the circuit pack initialization is complete, the replacement LNW170 circuit pack/pluggable transmission modules are autoprovisioned and the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm. Transmission is now supported on the replacement LNW170 circuit pack. Reference:
9 |
Important! The UPD/INIT button does not work during this upgrade. At the System View select Configuration → Update System → Update All. Result: A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes. The replacement LNW170 circuit pack/pluggable transmission modules are tested and the unexpected CP type alarm clears.
10 |
Important! It is recommended that the network element database be backed up to a remote OS (for example, OMS) after an upgrade. This creates a current backup copy that includes the replacement circuit packs. The remote OS could use this backup copy to restore the network element database in the event of a catastrophic failure. Attempts to restore the network element database using a backup copy created prior to the upgrade may result in circuit pack failures. Back up the network element database using the Configuration → Software → Remote Backup command. Reference:
11 |
This completes the circuit pack upgrade. If required, repeat this procedure to upgrade another LNW70 circuit pack. End of steps |
