Procedure 4-10.1: Change VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack slot protection state to Protected

Steps

Complete the following steps to change the Slot Protection State from Unprotected (default) to Protected for the Main slots equipped with VLNC50/52/55 circuit packs:

1

Important!

The VLIU10 interface unit is required for VLNC52/55 equipment protection. The VLIU1 or VLNC10 interface unit may be used for VLNC50 equipment protection.

Verify that the shelf is equipped with the required VLIU interface unit.

2

Important!

The VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack LAN Interface parameter must be provisioned PTM. The Slot Protection State cannot be changed from Unprotected to Protected if the LAN Interface is BP.

Select View → Equipment to access the LAN socket on the affected VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack and verify that the LAN Interface parameter is provisioned PTM.

If required, select Configuration → Equipment to access the required LAN socket and provision the LAN Interface parameter as PTM.

Procedure 4-9: Provision VLNC50/52/55 LAN pluggable transmission module socket

3

From the System View window, select Configuration → Equipment.

Result:

The Configure Equipment window opens.

4

Click (highlight) the required CP Main-1 circuit pack being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The circuit pack parameters appear.

5

Provision the Slot Protection State parameter as Protected and click Apply.

Result:

A dialog box appears stating that executing this command resets the network element. Click Yes and the WaveStar® CIT disconnects from the network element.

6

Re-establish the log in session to the network element.

Result:

  • If the Main 1 and Main 2 slots are equipped with the same circuit pack type and an unexpected CP type alarm was reported, then the system clears the alarm.

  • If the line timing mode is provisioned, the system may select a line which is no longer part of the line pair designated as the synchronization source; if so the line synchronization reference will be switched to a valid synchronization source or to holdover mode.

Procedure 14-2: Connect personal computer (PC) and establish WaveStar® CIT session

7

Important!

The circuit packs in the Main 1 and Main 2 slots must be the same circuit pack type.

If required, install the same type companion VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack in the Main 2 slot.

Result:

  • The system creates a 1+1 equipment protection group if both slots are equipped with accepted VLNC50/52/55 circuit packs.

  • If the main port Applications are 0x1, then all the port Applications are changed to 0x1. Main-2-1 inherits from Main-1-1 the provisioned values of all of the line-related parameters, and Main-2-2 inherits from Main-1-2 the provisioned values of all of the line-related parameters.

  • The UPSR/SNCP protection line for Main-1-1 changes from Main-1-2 to Main-2-1. Therefore, Main-2-1 inherits from Main-1-2 the provisioned values of all of the line-related parameters.

  • The UPSR/SNCP line-related parameters for Main-1-2 and Main-2-2 are set to the default values in an equipment protected shelf which may cause pluggable transmission module and DCC-related alarms. If required, refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) Maintenance and Trouble-Clearing Guide.

  • When the Signal Type parameter for one OCn/STMn line is changed, its companion line on the other circuit pack is automatically changed. The port Signal Type parameter of the two OCn/STMn lines on the same circuit pack may have different values.
