Procedure 10-6: Establish DS3 TMUX service
Overview
Use this procedure to establish DS3 TMUX service.
Important!
This procedure assumes that the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 shelf and network have been properly equipped and tested. If the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 shelf has not been properly equipped, refer to Chapter 5, Node turnup procedures. If the network has not been properly configured, refer to Chapter 9, Network configuration procedures.
Before you begin
Prior to performing this procedure:

Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

Verify that the work instructions specify the b-3 DS3 port parameters to provision and the cross-connections to be established.

Verify that the work instructions specify the DS1 ports to be assigned to the channelized b-3 DS3 port.
Steps
Complete the following steps to establish DS3 TMUX service.

Click the Alarm List button from the System View menu to obtain an NE Alarm List and verify that no alarms are present. Clear all alarms before continuing this procedure. Reference: Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch (TSS-5) Maintenance and Trouble-Clearing Guide |

Determine the b-3 DS3 port parameters to provision and the cross-connections to be established using the work instructions. |

Important! The b-3 DS3 port Tributary Mode parameter must be provisioned CHAN (channelized) for DS3 TMUX service. The Framing format may be provisioned M13 or CBIT. Select Configuration → Equipment to access DS3 port b-3 and provision the required parameters for DS3 TMUX service. Result: The b-3 DS3 signal is terminated and the DS1 signals within the DS3 signal are available to be cross-connected at the VT1.5 level. See example at the end of the procedure. Important! The VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack has 28 DS1 framers that are shared between the A-group ports and the b-3 DS3 TMUX port. Each DS1 framer may be assigned to either the A group or the channelized b-3 DS3 port. To assign (make available) a DS1 framer to the channelized b-3 DS3 port, the corresponding A-group DS1 port Port Mode parameter must be provisioned UNAVAIL (unavailable). Select Configuration → Equipment to access the required A-group DS1 ports and provision the Port Mode parameter UNAVAIL. Result: The DS1 framers are made available to the channelized DS3 b-3 port. Verify that the DS3 cable connections have been made from the terminating node to the cross-connect panel or equivalent connection points. |

Determine the required cross-connections to be established using the work instructions. |
