NOTICE Service-disruption hazard |
If a node has been taken out of the Ring Upgrade Mode, the node cannot be returned to the original pre-upgrade state without affecting service.
All nodes connected to the UPSR using the Main slots must be in the provisioned Ring Upgrade Mode.
Important!
This procedure starts at the last node upgraded. The last node upgraded must be connected to the UPSR using the Main slots. Suspending an upgrade at a node connected to the UPSR using port pairs in the Function/Growth slots is not supported.
This procedure assumes that the last node upgraded is a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend. However, the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXplore can also be connected to a UPSR using the Main slots. If the upgrade is suspended at a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXplore node, refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Explore (DMXplore) User Operations Guide, 365-372-332, Procedure 12-5: Suspend OC-3 UPSR to OC-12 UPSR upgrade.
Use this procedure to temporarily suspend an OC-3 UPSR to OC-12 UPSR upgrade at a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend connected to the UPSR using single-rate circuit packs in the Main slots.
To temporarily stop the upgrade at a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend node connected to the UPSR using multirate circuit packs in the Main/Function/Growth slots, refer to Procedure 12-27: Suspend UPSR/1+1 upgrade at node (multirate circuit packs).
Suspending an upgrade in progress temporarily stops the upgrade.
To return all nodes in the ring to their pre-upgrade state, refer to Procedure 12-2: Back out OC-3 UPSR to OC-12 UPSR upgrade.
When the ring upgrade is temporarily suspended before completion, some spans are operating at the OC-3 line rate and some at the OC-12 line rate. This requires two nodes that are equipped with an OC-3 OLIU circuit pack in one Main slot and an OC-12 OLIU circuit pack in the other Main slot. These nodes are the starting node and the last node upgraded. These nodes must be connected to the UPSR using the Main slots. Suspending an upgrade at a node connected to the UPSR using port pairs in the Function/Growth slots is not supported.
To continue to operate temporarily with different circuit packs in the Main slots, the starting node and the nodes that have been upgraded must remain in the Ring Upgrade Mode.
NOTICE Equipment damage |
Rocking circuit packs back and forth when removing or installing them can damage circuit pack and/or shelf connectors.
Do not rock circuit packs back and forth when removing or installing them. Carefully slide circuit packs into or out of the shelf slot.
NOTICE Service-disruption hazard |
Removing or installing circuit packs during a System Reset can cause system errors.
Do not remove or install a circuit pack during a System Reset. If a System Reset occurs, wait until the System Reset is complete, then remove or install the circuit pack.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Review the applicable Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) Software Release Description for any detailed procedures or cautions that may apply to this suspend procedure.
Important!
This procedure starts at the last node upgraded. This procedure assumes that the last node upgraded is a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend connected to a UPSR using the Main slots.
When optical fibers are disconnected during this procedure, inc. LOS, section DCC channel failed, and neighbor SYSCTL CP unavailable alarms are reported. The holdover mode active condition may also be reported depending on the provisioned system timing mode.
Complete the following steps to temporarily suspend an OC-3 to OC-12 UPSR upgrade at a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend connected to a UPSR using the Main slots.
1 |
Identify the last node that was upgraded.
Reference: Procedure 14-2: Connect Personal Computer (PC) and establish WaveStar® CIT session
2 |
Important! Both Main slots have been upgraded, and the Configuration → Update System → Upgrade command has been performed. All traffic is now active on Main slot M1, and the system is reporting an inc. OC12 LOS alarm for Main slot M2. Local operating procedures for removing a circuit pack may vary. One method is to disconnect the optical fibers and remove the circuit pack. Another method is to verify the circuit pack active/standby status, perform manual switches if the circuit pack is active, and then disconnect the optical fibers and remove the circuit pack. Determine the local operating procedures for removing a circuit pack before removing the OC-12 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2.
| ||||||
3 |
Important! This step is optional. If the OC-12 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2 is the active circuit pack for timing and the circuit pack is removed, the system performs an automatic protection switch and subsequent transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur. If desired, perform this step to determine the timing state of the OC-12 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2. Select View → Timing/Sync. Observe the value of the Active Circuit Pack parameter to determine the active circuit pack for timing. Click Close.
4 |
Important! This step is optional. If the OC-12 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2 is the active circuit pack for timing, an optional manual timing switch can be performed before replacing the circuit pack in Main slot M2. Transmission hits (less than 60 ms) will occur for each separate protection switch. If the OC-12 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M1 is the active circuit pack for timing, do not perform this step. To perform an optional manual timing switch, select Fault → Timing/Sync Protection Switch → Main Circuit Pack Timing Switch. Select the Manual Switch Command and click OK. Result: A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes.
5 |
If required, repeat Step 3 to verify that the circuit pack in Main slot M1 is now the active circuit pack for timing.
6 |
Important! This step is optional. If the Main and Function A/B slots were originally equipped with LNW140 OC-3/DS1 circuit packs, perform this step to determine the transmission state of the DS1 circuit packs in the Function A/B slots. If the Main slots were originally equipped with LNW40, LNW302, or LNW601 OC-3 circuit packs, do not perform this step. From the System View select Reports → Status Lists → Pack. Click on Shelf and Select. Observe the value of the Switch State parameter for the fn-a-1 and fn-a-2 circuit pack. If the Switch State parameter is active, the circuit pack is the active circuit pack for transmission. Click Close.
7 |
Important! This step is optional. If the Main and Function A/B slots were originally equipped with LNW140 OC-3/DS1 circuit packs and the DS1 circuit pack in slot A2/B2 is the active circuit pack for transmission, then a manual switch must be performed before replacing the circuit pack. If the Main slots were originally equipped with LNW40, LNW302, or LNW601 OC-3 circuit packs or the DS1 circuit pack in slot A1/B1 is the active circuit pack for transmission, do not perform this step. To perform an optional manual transmission switch, select Fault → Protection Switch. Click on the required 1+1 Equip fn-a protection group and Select. Select the Normal Switch Type and click Apply. Result: A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes. Then click Close.
8 |
If required, repeat Step 6 to verify that the DS1 circuit pack in Function slot A1/B1 is now the active circuit pack for transmission.
9 |
Open the faceplate latch on the OC-12 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2. If the circuit pack is active for timing and/or transmission, opening the latch causes timing and/or transmission switches. Disconnect the optical fibers from the OC-12 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2. Reference: Procedure 4-2: Install OLIU circuit packs in Main slots
10 |
At both ends of the optical span, perform the following to connect the original OC-3 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2 and the required OC-3 circuit pack/port at the opposite end of the original OC-3 optical span:
Result:
Reference: Procedure 14-4: Perform connection and verification of optical facility STOP! End of Procedure. The upgrade procedure is now temporarily suspended and traffic is supported to the adjacent nodes. To resume the upgrade, replace the OC-3 OLIU circuit pack in Main slot M2 with the OC-12 OLIU circuit pack. Refer to Procedure 12-1: Upgrade OC-3 UPSR to OC-12 UPSR. To back out the upgrade, refer to Procedure 12-2: Back out OC-3 UPSR to OC-12 UPSR upgrade.
