Procedure 4-4: Provision OLIU circuit packs/ports for service

- Overview

Use this procedure to provision OLIU circuit packs/ports for service.

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged or General user to complete this procedure.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure:

  1. Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.

  2. Obtain the work instructions for this procedure.

  3. Ensure appropriate OLIU circuit pack(s) is installed. If required, refer to Procedure 4-2: Install OLIU circuit packs in Main slots and/or Procedure 4-3: Install OLIU circuit packs in Function slots.

Steps

Complete the following steps to provision OLIU circuit packs/ports for service.

1

From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to verify that no alarms, loopbacks, protection switch lockouts, or protection switches are present for the OLIU circuit packs/ports to be provisioned.

Result:

The NE Alarm List appears.

2

Important!

The default Slot Protection State is Unprotected when an LNW55 OLIU circuit pack is installed in an unprovisioned Function/Growth group since the default port Signal Type is STNA (signal type not available). For all other OLIU circuit packs installed in an unprovisioned Function/Growth group, the default Slot Protection State is Protected .

The default Slot Protection State is Unprotected when an OLIU circuit pack is installed in a Function/Growth group with an unprotected circuit pack.

Select View → Equipment to access the circuit pack details and determine the value of the Slot Protection State parameter.

If required, change the Slot Protection State

Reference:

Procedure 4-23: Change slot protection state

3

From the System View window, select Configuration → Equipment.

Result:

The Configure Equipment window opens.

4

Find and highlight the OLIU circuit pack being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The circuit pack parameters appear.

5

Provision the required circuit pack parameters according to the work instructions, then click Apply if changes were made. If no changes were made, go to the next step.

Result:

A dialog box appears asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply the changes.

6

If required, repeat Step 4 and Step 5 to provision the companion circuit pack parameters.

7

Click Close to exit or continue with the next step to provision a port(s).

8

Important!

If the port Signal Type parameter is STNA (default value) for a port on an LNW55 multirate OLIU circuit pack, the Signal Type parameter must be changed to another value before other port parameter changes are allowed.

Changing port and socket parameters is not allowed until the Signal Type parameter is changed. If the port Signal Type parameter is STNA and a pluggable transmission module is installed, the system reports an unexpected or failed Pluggable Transmission Module alarm.

If ...

Then...

Changing an LNW55 port Signal Type parameter from STNA to another value,

Continue with the next step.

Not changing an LNW55 port Signal Type parameter from STNA to another value,

Proceed to Step 14.

9

Find the OLIU circuit pack with the ports being provisioned, then expand the equipment list by clicking on the plus (+) sign next to the OLIU circuit pack.

10

Click (highlight) the OLIU port being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The port parameters appear.

11

Important!

When the Signal Type parameter is initially changed from STNA to another value the change may be applied to This Port only or All Ports, This Pack.

Provision the Signal Type parameter according to the work instructions and click Apply to make provisioning changes.

Result:

A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply changes.

12

Important!

When the Signal Type parameter is initially changed from STNA to another value, 0x1 is the default and only selectable value for the Application parameter. The protected applications (for example, 1+1 and UPSR) are only valid/selectable after the Signal Type parameter is provisioned to the same value for both companion ports on the circuit packs in slot 1 and slot 2.

If required, repeat Step 9 through Step 11 to provision the Signal Type parameter the same value for the companion port.

13

Click Close to exit or continue with the next step to perform additional port provisioning.

14

If required, install pluggable transmission modules.

Reference:

Procedure 4-16: Install pluggable transmission modules

15

Find the OLIU circuit pack with the ports being provisioned, then expand the equipment list by clicking on the plus (+) sign next to the OLIU circuit pack.

16

If the circuit pack is...

Then...

equipped with pluggable transmission modules,

Perform the following:

  1. Click (highlight) the required pluggable transmission module (PTM) being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window.

  2. Provision the required pluggable transmission module parameters according to the work instructions, then click Apply if changes were made.

If required, repeat this step to access and provision the companion pluggable transmission module. Then continue with Step 17.

not equipped with pluggable transmission modules,

continue with Step 17.

17

Click (highlight) the OLIU port being provisioned, then click Select at the bottom of the window.

Result:

The port parameters appear.

18

Important!

If the port is to carry SDH signals, the SS Bits parameter must be provisioned SS10 to interwork with older SDH network elements. Newer SDH network elements ignore SS bits. The provisioned value of the SS Bits parameter has no effect on SONET signals or network elements that carry SONET signals.

The SS Bits parameter may be provisioned for individual ports on LNW55, LNW62, LNW84, and LNW141 OLIU circuit packs.

Important!

The port Application parameter may be changed from 1+1 to 1+1 Bidirectional or from 1+1 Bidirectional to 1+1 when cross-connections exist on the line pair.

Select and provision the required port parameters, according to the work instructions.

19

If required, provision unprotected operation for an optical port.

Reference:

Procedure 4-5: Provision unprotected operation on optical ports

20

If required, provision J0 section trace for an optical port.

Reference:

Procedure 6-13: Provision J0 section trace

21

If required, provision the port control plane parameters.

Reference:

Procedure 9-11: Establish external network-to-network interface (E-NNI)

22

Important!

The provisioning changes may be applied to This Port only or Port Pair. The Port Pair option only appears after the Signal Type parameter has been provisioned to an OC-n value.

All the current parameter settings may be applied to both ports of a port pair, or only the parameter settings that changed may be applied to both ports of a port pair.

If required, select Port Pair in the Apply to: field to apply the current parameter settings to both ports of the port pair or only the parameter settings that changed.

23

Click Apply to make provisioning changes. If no changes were made, continue with the next step.

Result:

If Port Pair was selected in the Apply to: field, a dialog box appears asking if you want to apply all parameter settings on the screen. Click Yes or No as required.

A dialog box may appear asking you to confirm executing this command. Click Yes to apply changes.

24

If required, repeat this procedure from Step 8 to provision additional ports on the OLIU circuit pack.

25

If required, repeat this procedure from Step 4 to provision additional OLIU circuit packs; otherwise, click Close to exit.
