NG-MVPN provider tunnels

SR Linux supports mLDP only for NG-MVPN provider tunnels, including inclusive and selective PMSI. mLDP is not available as a general-purpose multicast transport outside NG-MVPN.

Each NG-MVPN instance uses one or more mLDP P2MP trees, one for IPMSI set up by default and, optionally, one or more for SPMSI. These trees are identified by FEC type 1.
  • IPMSI tree – A single tree that carries all multicast traffic (<S, G>) for the MVPN and includes every PE participating in the service.
  • SPMSI tree – An optional tree that is built only when a qualified high-rate stream for an (S,G) exceeds the configured network-instance <name> protocols bgp-multicast-vpn multicast-vpn-instance <id> provider-tunnel selective data-rate-threshold, allowing the provider to distribute that (S,G) traffic selectively over the SPMSI. See the ‟Switching from I-PMSI to S-PMSI” section of the SR Linux VPN Services Guide for more information.

mLDP supports both IPv4 and IPv6 customer multicast streams C(S,G) over the provider core, using the MVPN-IPv4 and MVPN-IPv6 address families. See the ‟Auto-discovery” section of the SR Linux VPN Services Guide for more information.

SR Linux does not support ECMP to downstream nodes on root, LSR, or bud routers. The node selects the first link or interface that is operational as the next hop for P2MP replication.
