Procedure 9-1.2: Establish high-speed BLSR network

Important!

This is not a standalone procedure. Perform this procedure only as directed by Procedure 9-1: Establish high-speed end-to-end Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX network.

Steps

Important!

This procedure assumes that the BLSR is established by interconnecting Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX nodes using the OC-48/192 Main slot pair. However, the Main slot pair of the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX may also be connected in a BLSR with the Function/Growth slot pair of another Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX. If connecting to the Function/Growth slot pair of another Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX, refer to Procedure 9-9: Establish subtending low-speed UPSR/BLSR, as required, when performing this procedure.

Nodes are provisioned and optical spans are established individually around the BLSR starting with an Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX shelf designated as the starting node. Continue around the BLSR in the same direction until all nodes are provisioned. (Refer to the 2-fiber bidirectional line switched ring worksheet at the end of this procedure when performing this procedure.)

This procedure assumes that all Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX shelves have been equipped with the required circuit packs, software has been installed, and the shelf has passed the looped transmission tests. If not, refer to Chapter 5, Node turnup procedures.

Ignore all alarms until the procedure is complete.

Complete the following steps to establish a high-speed OC-48/192 BLSR.

1

Important!

For BLSR applications, the port Application parameter must be provisioned 2F BLSR.

Up to 15 BLSR protection groups may be supported by a single network element when the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs.

From the System View menu at the starting node, select Configuration → Equipment to access the Main 1 and 2 ports and provision the port parameters according to the work instructions.

9

From the System View menu, select View → DCC Terminations, verify that the DCC terminations were provisioned correctly, and click Close.

10

At each node in the 2-fiber BLSR (refer to the 2-fiber BLSR worksheet at the end of the procedure), repeat Step 8 and Step 9 to provision and verify the DCC terminations for the Main ports.

If an Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX is using a Function/Growth slot pair, refer to Procedure 9-9: Establish subtending low-speed UPSR/BLSR to provision and verify the required DCC terminations.

11

Important!

Synchronization Autoreconfiguration is only provisionable if the system timing mode is Line and the Sync Messaging parameter of all ports is enabled. If the Sync Messaging parameter is enabled at any port in the network, it must be enabled at all ports in the network.

If required at the starting node, provision synchronization functions according to work instructions.

Repeat this step at each node in the 2-fiber BLSR (refer to the 2-fiber BLSR worksheet at the end of the procedure).

16

If automatic ring discovery was...

Then...

enabled at each node (in Step 4),

Important!

As the ring is connected, nodes automatically communicate with each other using the data communications channel (DCC) and build a ring map. If successful, automatic ring discovery builds a ring map at each node and the Ring Discovery in Progress condition clears. If unsuccessful, the ring map is not complete and alarms are reported.

At the host node, select View → Ring Map → Ring Map. Then click on the appropriate ring and Select.

The ring map information appears. If the ring is incomplete and alarms are present, refer to Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer (DMX) Alarm Messages and Trouble Clearing Guide, 365-372-302.

19

The 2-fiber BLSR is now ready for initial service to be established.

Important!

Establishing service requires that the proper slots in each terminating node be properly equipped with the correct circuit pack(s) for the type of service being established. It also requires numerous cross-connections in each of the nodes representing the path of the required service. Additionally, transmission tests should be performed to verify the continuity and quality of the established circuit.
