Use this procedure to install LNW705 XM10G/8 8-channel 10G Muxponder circuit packs.
The 10G Muxponder circuit pack multiplexes/demultiplexes up to eight of the following most common high-bandwidth client signals onto a single 10G wavelength.
If the Main slots are not equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs, the circuit packs in a Function/Growth group must be the same circuit pack type. If the circuit packs in a Function/Growth group are different circuit pack types, the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm and service may be impacted.
Since all DWDM-related circuit packs are considered the same circuit pack type, a 10G Muxponder circuit pack may be installed in a Function/Growth group with an OMD circuit pack.
The 10G Muxponder circuit pack may be installed in any Function/Growth slot.
If the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs, the circuit packs in a Function/Growth group may be the same or different circuit pack type depending on the Slot Protection State.
For 10G Muxponder circuit packs, the Slot Protection State parameter is fixed Unprotected. If the Slot Protection State is Protected and a 10G Muxponder circuit pack is installed, the system reports an unexpected CP type alarm and service may be impacted. If the Slot Protection State is Unprotected, a 10G Muxponder circuit pack may be installed in a Function/Growth group with any DWDM, Ethernet/Data, or low-speed OLIU circuit pack. The system does not support 10G Muxponder circuit packs in a Function/Growth group with electrical low speed circuit packs.
If an incompatible circuit pack is installed in a Function/Growth slot, the system reports a CP not allowed - eqpt alarm.
Select View → Equipment to access the circuit pack details and determine the value of the Slot Protection State parameter.
The Slot Protection State parameter can be changed from Protected to Unprotected or from Unprotected to Protected. If required, refer to Procedure 4-24: Change slot protection state.
You must log in as a Privileged, General, Maintenance, or Reports Only user to complete this procedure.
A deeper shelf cover (comcode 849068358) is required for shelves equipped with 10G Muxponder circuit packs. This shelf cover provides more space to prevent fibers from touching the front cover when the cover is closed.
Use only Alcatel-Lucent Approved Class 1 SFP/XFP transceivers. Refer to the list of pluggable transmission modules in Procedure 4-15: Install pluggable transmission modules.
Refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer (DMX) Installation Manual, 365-372-304, as required, when removing and/or installing pluggable transmission modules.
Prior to performing this procedure:
Refer to Required equipment and Before you begin in this chapter.
Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge in Chapter 1, Safety.
Ensure that an 10G Muxponder circuit pack is available for installation.
Ensure that the correct pluggable transmission modules are available for installation.
Use the work instructions and select View → Equipment to access the circuit pack details and determine if the Main slots are equipped with Very Large Fabric LNW59, LNW82, or LNW504 OLIU circuit packs.
Complete the following steps to install an 10G Muxponder circuit pack.
1 |
Important! The 10G Muxponder circuit pack may be installed in any Function/Growth slot. Determine the Function/Growth slots being equipped with an 10G Muxponder circuit pack. Reference:

2 |
Ensure all optical fiber connectors and couplings are properly cleaned. Important! Signal performances may be degraded if the connections and couplings are not cleaned properly. Reference: Procedure 14-3: Clean optical fibers, dual LC adapters and LC lightguide buildouts (LBOs) |
3 |
Important! Pluggable transmission modules are shipped with a dust cover installed into the optical ports to maintain cleanliness during storage and/or transportation. It is recommended that the dust cover be kept in place to maintain cleanliness until the optical fiber is connected. With proper care and handling, cleaning the pluggable transmission modules should not be necessary. If required, clean the optical pluggable transmission modules. Reference: Procedure 14-29: Clean optical pluggable transmission module |
4 |
Important! A deeper shelf cover (comcode 849068358) is required for shelves equipped with 10G Muxponder circuit packs. This shelf cover provides more space to prevent fibers from touching the front cover when the cover is closed. Verify that the shelf is equipped with the deeper shelf cover and carefully remove any caution tags that are attached to the circuit pack. |
5 |
Open both faceplate latches and seat the 10G Muxponder circuit pack in the required Function/Growth slot. Result: The FAULT LED lights for approximately 2 minutes then goes off, indicating successful installation. Select View → Refresh System View and the circuit pack appears in the WaveStar® CIT System View indicating successful installation. |
6 |
If required, install pluggable transmission modules in the circuit pack according to the work instructions. Reference: Procedure 4-15: Install pluggable transmission modules |
7 |
Verify that the companion Function/Growth slot is equipped with a circuit pack, 177D Application Blank, or LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack. If the companion Function/Growth slot is unequipped, insert a 177D Application Blank or LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack into the slot. Result: If an LNW98 Detectable Blank circuit pack was installed, select View → Refresh System View and the circuit pack appears in the WaveStar® CIT System View indicating successful installation. |
8 |
From the System View window, click the Alarm List button to verify that no alarms are present for the ports on the circuit packs just installed. Result: The NE Alarm List appears. No alarms should be present for the circuit packs just installed. |
9 |
If required, provision the 10G Muxponder circuit pack and optical channel transport unit (OTU2) port. Reference: Procedure 4-29: Provision 10G Muxponder circuit pack/optical channel transport unit (OTU2) port End of steps |
