Procedure 9-1.2: Establish 0x1 extension

Important!

This is not a stand-alone procedure. Perform this procedure only as directed by Procedure 9-1: Establish Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 SONET/SDH network.

Steps

Important!

This procedure assumes that the 0x1 extension is established by interconnecting a Main-1 port (equipment unprotected) or any Main-1/Main-2 port (equipment protected) of the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 to a Function/Growth slot of a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX or Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend. However, the Main port of the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 may also be connected to any network element that supports standard unprotected 0x1 extensions to OC-N/STM-N optical interfaces.

If connecting to a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX, refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer (DMX) User Provisioning Guide, 365-372-301, as required, when performing this procedure.

If connecting to a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend, refer to the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) User Provisioning Guide, 365-372-325, as required, when performing this procedure.

This procedure assumes that the near-end node is the Main port of a Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 and the far-end node is the Function/Growth slot pair of a Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX or Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend.

This procedure assumes that the Alcatel-Lucent 1850 TSS-5 has been equipped with the required circuit packs/pluggable transmission modules, software has been installed, and the shelf has passed the looped transmission tests. If not, refer to Procedure 5-1: Equip new Alcatel-Lucent 1850 Transport Service Switch 5.

Ignore all alarms until the procedure is complete.

Complete the following steps to establish an 0x1 extension.

1

Important!

For equipment protected operation, VLNC50/52/55 circuit packs are required in the Main-1 and Main-2 slots. For equipment unprotected operation, a VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack is required in the Main-1 slot only.

Verify that the required VLNC50/52/55 circuit packs/pluggable transmission modules are installed.

If required, install VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack/pluggable transmission modules.

If equipment protected operation is provisioned, any Main port may be used. If equipment unprotected operation is provisioned, a Main port on the Main-1 circuit pack must be used.

Procedure 4-2: Install circuit pack in Main slot

2

Important!

The port Application parameter must be provisioned 0x1 at both ends of the system.

From the System View menu at the near-end node, select Configuration → Equipment to access the required Main port and provision the port parameters according to the work instructions.

Reference:

Procedure 4-4: Provision VLNC50/52/55 circuit pack and SONET/SDH ports for service

3

Select View → Equipment to access the required Main port and verify that the port was provisioned correctly. Click Close.

4

Important!

For SONET networks with a LAPD Mode of AITS, the LAPD Role parameter must be provisioned differently at each end of an optical span. For example, if the LAPD Role parameter is provisioned user-side at one end of an optical span, then the LAPD Role parameter must be provisioned network-side at the other end of the optical span.

For SDH networks with a LAPD Mode of UITS, if the other end is not a TSS-5 NE and it follows the strict user-side/network-side role, then there is a restriction that LAPD Role parameter must be provisioned differently at each end of the optical span. If the other end is a TSS-5 NE or it does not follow the strict user-side/network-side role, then there is no such restriction and the LAPD Role may be set the same at both ends and no alarm is reported.

From the System View menu at the near-end node, select Configuration → DCC Terminations and provision the DCC terminations for the required DCC port according to the work instructions.

Reference:

Procedure 6-4: Provision DCC terminations

5

From the System View menu, select View → DCC Terminations and verify that the DCC Termination parameters were provisioned correctly. Click Close.

6

Important!

Synchronization Autoreconfiguration is only provisionable if the system Timing Mode parameter is Line and the Sync Messaging parameter of all ports is enabled. If the Sync Messaging parameter is enabled at any port in the network, it must be enabled at all ports in the network.

At the near-end node, provision the synchronization functions (for example, timing mode) according to work instructions.

Reference:

Procedure 6-5: Network synchronization provisioning

7

Important!

If Remote NE Status is to be used, at least one network element must be provisioned as the Alarm Gateway Network Element (AGNE) in the network. If the network element is designated as the Alarm Gateway Network Element (AGNE), the Alarm Gateway parameter must be provisioned Enabled.

From the System View menu at the near-end node, select Administration → Set NE and provision the Remote NE Status, Alarm Group, and Alarm Gateway parameters according to the work instructions.

Reference:

Procedure 7-7: Set NE defaults — alarm gateway, alarm group, remote NE status, FTP/FTTD, security and history log thresholds

8

At the far-end node, provision the required port, DCC terminations, synchronization, and Remote NE Status functions according to the work instructions.

Reference:

Refer to the other product's documentation to provision the required port, DCC terminations, synchronization, and remote NE status functions.

9

Connect the optical fibers between the required Main port at the near-end node and the far-end node and verify the integrity of the optical span being established.

Reference:

Procedure 14-4: Perform connection and verification of optical facility

10

Perform end-to-end optical line test.

Reference:

Procedure 14-7: Perform end-to-end optical line test

11

At the near-end and far-end nodes, click the Alarm List button from the System View menu and verify that no alarms are present.

12

The 0x1 extension is now ready for initial service to be established.

Important!

Establishing service requires that the proper slots in each terminating node be properly equipped with the correct circuit packs for the type of service being established. It also requires numerous cross-connections in each of the nodes representing the path of the required service. Additionally, transmission tests should be performed to verify the continuity and quality of the established circuit.
