Procedure 3-2: Accept Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend SONET/SDH network

- Overview

Use this procedure to test out-of-service Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend shelves in a SONET/SDH network. This procedure is used only if the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend network was installed by someone else.

Important!

It is assumed that the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend is installed in a network and each shelf has previously been tested in a stand-alone looped-back configuration. If each shelf has not been tested in a stand-alone looped-back configuration, refer to Procedure 3-1: Accept Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend shelf.

Important!

If the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend fails to respond in the indicated manner, notify the installation organization that installed the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend or refer to Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend (DMXtend) Alarm Messages and Trouble Clearing Guide, 365-372-326.

- Privilege level

You must log in as a Privileged user to complete this procedure.

Required equipment

In addition to the equipment listed in Required equipment, an optical power meter is also required.

- Before you begin

Prior to performing this procedure

  1. Refer to Before you begin in this chapter.

  2. Refer to Laser safety and Electrostatic discharge information in Chapter 1, Safety.

  3. Obtain the engineering data for the network.

  4. Verify that the engineering data shows the node target identifiers (TIDs) and fiber connections.

Steps

Complete the following steps to test out-of-service Alcatel-Lucent 1665 Data Multiplexer Extend shelves in a network.

1

At each node in the network, select Administration → View NE Administration from the System View menu and verify that the network element parameters agree with the engineering data.

2

Important!

At least one node in the network should be set for DS1 External or Free Running. No more than one node in the network should be Free Running.

In order to enable sync autoreconfiguration, Sbyte (sync messaging) must also be enabled.

At each node in the network, select View → Timing/Sync and verify that the system timing information agrees with the engineering data.

Procedure 6-5: Network Element synchronization provisioning

3

Determine the optical loss of each optical span from office records or by making the required measurements. Verify that the correct LBOs have been installed and the fiber are connected.

Reference:

Procedure 14-4: Perform connection and verification of optical facility

4

At each node in the network, select View → DCC Terminations and verify that the DCC Channel Status parameters agree with the engineering data.

5

At each node in the network, select Administration → OSI Neighbor Map and verify that the nodes are properly connected with adjacent nodes, as required.

6

Perform the end-to-end optical line test on all optical spans. Report any failures to the organization that installed the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMXtend shelf.
